Remote speech to text or remote CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is a service which offers realtime speech-to-text streamed over the internet to you. Remote speech to text is a system whereby a digital shorthand copy of proceedings is made at the same time as people speak, transcribed into written language. The transcript is viewable immediately.

Qualifications

We only use certified and experienced writers.

A high standard is important as we know our steno writers have the requisite experience gained after many years of writing post-qualification and an ability to write confidently at high speeds with an error rate of less than 2%.

Our steno writers have trained as court reporters and gained experience in that field before moving to realtime writing for deaf people – a further benchmark of their high quality.

Our notetakers are registered with NRCPD. A list of the qualifications our steno writers hold can be found at Steno writers: Further information

Having used these writers ourselves, we know who all the best writers are!

Remote captions

When realtime captions are shown on broadcast video content, this is known as Remote Captions.

Our steno writers are experienced TV broadcast captioners and subtitle programmes such as the daily news for Canada TV.

Languages available: English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Spanish.

Remote notetaking

A remote electronic notetaker will give you a summary instead of a word-for-word account.

This service is ideal for sign language users and those for whom English is not their first language. Please note, you will receive a meaning-for-meaning translation, not a word-for-word translation of the proceedings.

We only use qualified and NRCPD registered professionals.

Speech to text and notetaking are quite different; contact us for a sample to illustrate the two levels of service.

TIPS FOR GREAT AUDIO

It is the responsibility of the client to ensure a high quality audio capture is provided for our remote writers. Often it is as simple as using an existing in-house audio system and hooking this up to the internet, or providing the dial-in details for a teleconference call. We always carry out a test before each new booking and we can discuss the technical setup with your IT department if required. We can visit you and provide training on how best to use microphones in your venue.

Check out our store for a range of microphones or contact us for further advice.
